The new gourmet kitchen shown above was expanded to include hardwood flooring, additional windows, new cabinetry and luxury appliances.Exterior upgrades included an outdoor fireplace, landscaping and elevation enhancements. McNulty worked closely with SALA Architects to match previous exterior finishes that was completed to the homeowner's utmost satisfaction.

In addition to creating the dream kitchen for the homeowner, the project included adding a powder room and creating a second floor den area with a staircase from the new kitchen that turned out to be the homeowner's favorite feature. We also created a wonderful usable backyard and patio area which had been completely unusable prior. The remodeling project came in on time and on budget.

Our Company

The The McNulty name has been known in Twin City building and land development for four generations. Jim and Tim McNulty's great-grandfather, James, began building and land development in Minneapolis in 1909 as Hyland Homes. Their grandfather, John and father, Bob, continued the building tradition until 1949 when the name was changed to McNulty Construction Company. Bob McNulty ran the company for 45 years until his death in 1996. Among his many endeavors Bob developed the 500-acre Westwood Hills area in St. Louis Park. He was one of the founders and owners of the Minnesota North Stars hockey team and was in charge of the design and construction of the Met Center in Bloomington, which was completed and ready for the drop of the first puck in ten months. He went on to oversee the design and construction of numerous stadia projects throughout the country and internationally, including the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, the Cincinnati Coliseum, and Halifax Nova Scotia. He was a long-term consultant for the National Hockey League.

From the 1980's, Jim and Tim McNulty carried on this fine family tradition of building excellence founded in trust, honor and integrity. In addition to various commercial projects, they built and remodeled a select number of custom residences each year, which allowed them to maintain the hands-on, personalized approach that has been a hallmark of the McNulty family name for over 115 years. Both Jim and Tim remained actively involved in the company, until Tim's unexpected passing in 2023. Jim McNulty continues to be retained as a building and development consultant and owner's agent. He enjoys his continuing work as a mediator and arbitrator for construction and real estate disputes.

It is rare in today's home building industry to find a company with such a treasured history as McNulty Construction Company. Over one hundred years ago, James A. McNulty began in the construction business here in Minnesota.

Through the years, members of the McNulty family have overseen operations of this long-standing family run home building company.
